Georgia is a true leader in the Eastern Partnership - Tusk

“Georgia has defined its own path as a closely associated partner of the EU and our bilateral relations are strong,”- said European Council President Donald Tusk at yesterday's press conference held together with the President of Georgia.

Donald Tusk expressed his condolences to the families of victims of the June 13 disaster.

"I'm really happy to be in Tbilisi again. I am glad that President Margvelashvili invited me to Georgia at our previous meeting. Unfortunately, I had to postpone my visit due to the dramatic developments taking place in Greece. Thank you for your patience.

I want to express deepest sympathy to the families of those who perished in the June 13 floods. I want to express my solidarity and stress that we will be by your side. Georgia defined its own path as a closely associated partner of the EU and our bilateral relations are strong and getting stronger. Georgia is a real leader in the Eastern Partnership. This is not a compliment, this is a fact. Implementation of the Association Agreement, which we launched last September, will play a key role in the intensification of our partnership,"- said Donald Tusk.

According to him, many positive changes will take place in Georgia.

"One of them will be visa liberalization. Progress has already been achieved and we have a very ambitious agenda to complete the process. During negotiations, we discussed a variety of regional and international perspectives.

The EU is committed to supporting Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. We want to strengthen diplomatic efforts as much as possible to achieve a decision.

Tomorrow, I will visit the EU Monitoring Mission and administrative border with breakaway South Ossetia in order to assess the situation regarding installation of the border demarcation signs. Let me underline and reiterate that I'm in Georgia because your country is very important to us,”- said Donald Tusk.
